Sugar & Scout

We gained two new friends this week, Scout and Sugar (also known as Princess Beyonce). She is so pretty she looks like a princess. These babies are about 7.5 months old and full of energy. It is all I can do to stay away from the humane society because kittens are so cute. Hope S&S's friends will be leaving town again soon so I can get my kitten fix. Scout is the cat with the tux on and princess is the pretty girl on the right. We had alot of fun with these two!

Meet Shadow - Dudley's new little brother!

Some of you know that Tim and I rescued a black lab on October 10th and have been trying to find his owner. After almost two weeks of placing ads, phone calls and flyers I decided that I had to place him for adoption. But much to our surprise the day after picking up "the dog formerly known as Cornbread", I received an email from one of our very first clients asking if we would still be their pet sitter if they got another dog? They wanted to rescue a dog! All of our prayers were answered that day and we didn't even know it until October 21! Dudley actually met his brother on October 20th. Ann called on the 20th to say they wanted to provide a "forever home" for Shadow! He has been there 2 nights now and doing just fine. Ann said that he follows she, Bob and Dudley wherever they go - thus the name Shadow. This is a match made in Helena!
Thanks so much to Ann, Bob, Abita and Dudley for sharing their home with this special pup! It warms my heart to say the very least to know that he will be well taken care of and that Dudley will have someone to play with for now on.

Jake Is Loving The Treats...

Speaking of treats...we have a treat to celebrate besides the 4th of July, we are taking care of Jake again. While his friends are enjoying the Gulf coast, Jake is enjoying his bones and looking forward to going swimming in the pool later today.

Dudley Gets a New Toy

It's vacation time again for Dudley's friends and that means Tim and I have our hands full (just the way we like it). Last night Dudley and I had a good time outside playing keep away with his new toy. I throw it, Dudley retrieves it, and keeps it away from me. This could go on all night (the part about keeping it away from me)! I wish I had D's energy.

Sugar Belue, Our Ledge Kitty

Yesterday was a sad day because we learned that Sugar Belue, our sweet 14 year old kitty was suffering with cancer of the tongue and throat. Shortly after being diagnosed she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Sugar lived up to her name everyday - she was the sweetest baby
.
She had the prettiest white nose and she slept on my pillow every night. To think her tail flipping in my face use to irritate me. I will miss Sugar tail and all.
See why I refer to her as a ledge kitty. She just loved to be suspended between two items such as the couches above.

I love you Sugar.

Dog Gone It!

Today while at work I saw two black & whites come through the parking lot. I vowed I would not get involved; but I did. I ran out and found the two - dogs. Both dogs had collars on but no tags. What is wrong with pet owners that put collars on their pets but no identification???? I picked these two up and gave them lots of dog bones and cat treats - all I had in the car. I called Hoover Animal Control and the officers told me they had been trying to catch these two all morning on the interstate! I got lucky and caught them in Southlake. These two are now at the Vestavia Animal Clinic being checked out. I assume they ran away during the storm the past weekend. Both are sweet and love each other very much. I am so glad they stayed together. I can only hope that someone would do the same for mine.

Here's Teddy

This is Teddy Bush. He has been our friend for many years but we don't see much of him because he likes to hang out in the closet. But since the birth of his 3 new siblings, I think he is more curious about what is going on outside of Closetville. He is so sweet and pretty too. Glad you came out to play this trip Ted.

Bridget brought Eddie over to play...

Yeah, right...

We were making our rounds this morning and when we got home, guess who we found in our bed? Eddie! Ed is like most of the rest of us, when its raining outside, don't we all just want to go back to bed?
I was once told that in Eddie's former life he was a country dog - I say Eddie is more like a country club dog!

Sonny Bunny - Happy Easter!

This picture doesn't do Sonny justice; but then again it does. He like Temptations cat treats ALOT! This photo was taken after he made a meal of Temptations.

Look at him licking his chops.

It's been a while since we have seen Sonny and his other pack members because last year three babies (triplets, Aly, Seph and Tommy) moved in to his place. It really warmed our hearts to see how the cats remembered us and came right out to welcome us back. I will post pictures of Porter, Suki and Teddy later in the week as we continue to visit these cats.

Budman

We are spending Easter with Bud while David is off visiting one our of our favorite towns - Seaside. While David is eating seafood, we will be hiding bones around the house for Bud to find on Easter morning! He doesn't have much of a nose but he can find anything that is edible.

Meet Our New Clients...

Recently we saw a van on the road that advertised Angelia's Happy Hounds then saw an advertisment for this company too in the Valupak envelop. Turns out Angelia is a mobile groomer and you can tell when you meet her pack. Baylee (missing from photos) and Jennie (both are standard poodles), then there is George that is a Schnoodle, and last but not least Boris the Bichon Fiese and so funny to watch run.

Cat Trappin

Well when Tim got to the office (Wednesday) today he found one cat in the trap but it wasn't Momma Kitty. It was one of her kittens from last spring. The cat is now at Alabama Spay Neuter being fixed and we will pick it up on Friday and release it where it has been living for a year. Momma Kitty - you're next. "Smokey" was released by into the wild on Friday after being neutered, getting shots and having his ear clipped. The ear being clipped indicated that the animal has been fixed. One down...

Cat Trappers

Tim and I are trying to trap a feral cat right now and hope we have a catch this morning. Checked the trap last night at 9:00 and Momma Kitty had eaten but didn't spring the trap. Smart kitty. Crossing my fingers that we have her this a.m. If we do, it is off to the spay and neuter clinic to be fixed. Here kitty...

On the Brow in Mentone

No pet jobs this weekend and I guess it is because we are in between Spring break and Easter. Since we weren't busy with pet jobs, we took off for the mountains of Mentone. We are staying in this wonderful cabin as guests of Toby, Millie and Rosie, just a few of our clients that you may have read about. This cabin is on the "Brow" and has the most incredible view. Sunset yesterday was beautiful.

Speaking of views, yesterday we went to DeSoto Falls, DeSoto Park (always checking out the camp sites) and finished the day at Cloudland Canyon State Park in Georgia. More later, we are off to explore more of this region.

Iditarod XXXVIII

Well Lance Mackey has done it again in spectacular style. He is the only man to ever win 4 in a row. At times I felt like I was by his side when all of the sudden I would get a chill.
Rev and Maple plus 9 other dogs went the entire distance with Lance. I did too in heart and on GPS thru the Iditarod website. If you don't know anything about the greatest race on Earth, you need to watch a movie. These dogs have heart.
Sleep well my friend Lance and congrats. I look forward to seeing you win five in a row next year. Gooooooooooooo Lance go! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhooooooooooooo!

Our Spring Break Before Your Spring Break!

We had a chance to get away due to the warm weekend ahead we headed to Tannehill for our first camp outing of 2010. Our campsite (332) is on a stream with a babbling brook. Combine the crackling of the campfire with the gentle sounds from the brook, and top that with the bird singing and you have your own piece of Ole' Beautiful. Imagine150 years ago these hills protected our soldiers and ammunition foundry at the beginning of the Civil war. Each Memorial day a battle from the war is reeacted and one day the South wins and the next day the North wins. It is so realistic with the canons, the horses, the period tents and the cotilion that night.

The boys, Jack and Forest, came camping on Friday and Saturday night and really enjoyed the sunshine as well as the heat of the fire and the colors from the Christmas lights.

But we took them back so we could ride our bikes around the park. It is exceptionally beautiful right now with the leaves on the ground. Weather was great and it was a great ride. We love our bikes that we got this past summer from Cahaba Cycle.

Once we got back from our ride around the park, IditaTrish had to check out the Iditarod Dog Sled Race that started in Anchorage today and will finish in Nome which is 1149 miles away in about 9-10 days depending on alot of things; weather, dogs, strategy. This is truly the Greatest Race on Earth.

Remember Roller Derby?

In memory of an avid animal lover and rescuer, Sarah Stanfield" aka "Sally Slaughter", the Tragic City Rollers are dedicating their game to their fallen team mate. I don't know Sarah but I did read an article in The Birmingham News about her. It appears she touched many people in her short life. The Tragic City Rollers take on the Soul City Sirens from Augusta, Georgia on March 14 @ 7:pm at the Zamora Temple. Come on out for some exciting skating. http://www.tragiccityrollers.com/ To prepare for this game I watched the movie, Whip It! this weekend. Wahoo - we be jamming!

It's Miller Time...

Miller can find something to eat anywhere. We put out some bread for the birds to munch on and he found it.
